Wegovy Pills — what we know so far
Semaglutide is one of the most widely recognised medicines used within weight management services in the UK. It currently exists as the active ingredient in Wegovy, available as a once-weekly injection for eligible patients.
Semaglutide belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists. These treatments work by acting on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation and helping to support feelings of fullness.
There is growing interest in whether semaglutide may also become available in an oral (tablet) form for weight management. While this formulation is not currently available in the UK, it is being studied and may offer an additional option for some patients if it becomes licensed.
As with all prescription-only medicines, any future oral semaglutide treatment would only be prescribed following a clinical assessment by a qualified healthcare professional. It would also be used alongside lifestyle measures such as dietary changes, increased physical activity and ongoing support.
A daily pill that fits your routine
For many people, a simple daily tablet feels more familiar than a weekly injection and slots more easily into work, travel and everyday life. If needles have been holding you back, an oral option could change that — once it's licensed and a prescriber confirms it's suitable for you.
- Taken by mouth — no needles
- Once daily, built into your routine
- Always alongside diet, activity and pharmacist support

Quick online consultation
When a tablet option becomes available, you complete a short, confidential health questionnaire so our prescribers can check it's safe and suitable for you.
Prescriber review & dispatch
If approved, we let you know and dispense your treatment in discreet, tracked packaging. If it isn't suitable, a prescriber explains why and points you to better care.
Is it suitable for everyone?
No. Weight management medicines are not suitable for everyone.
A healthcare professional will always assess whether a treatment is appropriate and safe before prescribing. These medicines are for adults aged 18 and over, and work best as part of a wider programme that includes nutrition, activity and long-term lifestyle support.
Eligibility depends on a range of clinical factors, including:
- Medical history
- Current medications
- Weight-related health conditions
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Individual treatment goals
- National and local prescribing criteria

Wegovy injection
The once-weekly injection containing semaglutide, available in the UK for eligible patients following clinical assessment. Usually started at a low dose and increased gradually to help tolerability. Includes ongoing support from our UK pharmacy team.
Start a consultationMounjaro injection
Another prescription-only weight management medicine available in the UK for eligible patients. It contains tirzepatide and is given as a once-weekly injection. Suitability always depends on an individual clinical assessment.
Start a consultationAll patients receive appropriate counselling on correct use, possible side effects and ongoing monitoring from a healthcare professional. The most appropriate choice depends entirely on individual clinical circumstances and a prescribing assessment — the final decision always lies with the prescriber.

Important information
Weight management medicines are prescription-only medicines and are not suitable for everyone. They must only be prescribed following an assessment by a qualified healthcare professional, and are for adults aged 18 and over.
An oral semaglutide (Wegovy Pills) tablet for weight management is not yet available or licensed in the UK. Joining the waiting list registers your interest only — it is not an order, and no payment is taken. We will only ever offer this treatment once it is properly licensed and a prescriber confirms it is suitable for you.
