What is Nasonex?

What is Nasonex?

Nasonex is a nasal spray that contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate. Mometasone is a topical glucocorticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and to help limit the release of mediators of allergic reactions. Nasonex is used to help relieve symptoms of hay fever.

How do I use Nasonex?

  1. Remove the dust cap (remember to replace it after use).

  2. Shake the bottle well.

  3. Gently blow your nose.

  4. Press your finger up against one nostril to close it and place the nozzle of the bottle into the other nostril.

  5. Lean your head slightly forward.

  6. Breathe in slowly, and at the same time press down on the applicator to release one pump of the medicine into your nostril (as directed in the Patient Information Leaflet).

  7. Breathe out through your mouth and repeat the process for the other nostril.

The usual dose is two sprays into each nostril once daily. When your symptoms are under control, you can reduce this to one spray into each nostril once daily.

If using a bottle of Nasonex for the first time, you need to prime it. To do this, remove the dust cap, point the applicator away from you, and pump it 10 times until a fine spray is released.

If you have not used Nasonex for 14 days or more, re-prime it by pumping twice until a fine spray appears.

What is hay fever?

Hay fever is a common allergic condition that causes sneezing, a runny nose, and itchy eyes. It occurs when your immune system reacts to pollen from trees, grass, or weeds. While not usually serious, it can be very uncomfortable.

You may be allergic to specific types of pollen and find your symptoms are worse at certain times of the year or in particular environments.
