This comparison is general guidance, not a recommendation to switch treatments. New tablet patients start at 1.5 mg and build up gradually, whatever their previous injection dose. Your NewGen prescriber will confirm the most suitable medicine, starting dose and titration plan for you.
Wegovy tablets — the first of its kind in the UK
Semaglutide is one of the most widely recognised medicines used within weight management services in the UK, and is the active ingredient in Wegovy — already available as a once-weekly injection for eligible patients.
Semaglutide belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists. These treatments act on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation, helping to support feelings of fullness.
In June 2026, the MHRA approved an oral (tablet) form of semaglutide for weight management — the first weight-loss pill of its kind licensed in the UK. It is now available at NewGen for eligible patients, and may offer an alternative for people who would prefer a daily tablet to a weekly injection.
As with all prescription-only medicines, oral semaglutide is prescribed only following a clinical assessment by a qualified healthcare professional, and is used alongside lifestyle measures such as dietary changes, increased physical activity and ongoing support.
A daily pill, not a weekly needle
For many people, a simple daily tablet feels more familiar than a weekly injection and slots more easily into work, travel and everyday life. If needles have been holding you back, an oral option could change that — once a prescriber confirms it is suitable for you.
- Taken by mouth — no needles
- Once daily, built into your routine
- Always alongside diet, activity and pharmacist support

From assessment to your door, the safe way

UK prescriber review
A UK prescriber (never an algorithm) reviews your answers to check the tablet is safe and suitable for you, and confirms the right starting dose.
Prescriber review & dispatch
If approved, we let you know and dispense your treatment in discreet, tracked packaging. If it isn't suitable, a prescriber explains why and points you to better care.
Is it suitable for everyone?
No. Weight management medicines are not suitable for everyone.
A healthcare professional will always assess whether a treatment is appropriate and safe before prescribing. These medicines are for adults aged 18 and over, and work best as part of a wider programme that includes nutrition, activity and long-term lifestyle support.
Eligibility depends on a range of clinical factors, including:
- Medical history
- Current medications
- Weight-related health conditions
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Individual treatment goals
- National and local prescribing criteria
Prefer an injection? Other licensed options
Tablets not for you? NewGen also offers licensed once-weekly injection treatments for eligible patients, following the same clinical assessment.
Wegovy injection
The once-weekly injection containing semaglutide, available in the UK for eligible patients following clinical assessment. Usually started at a low dose and increased gradually to help tolerability. Includes ongoing support from our UK pharmacy team.
Start a consultationMounjaro injection
Another prescription-only weight management medicine available in the UK for eligible patients. It contains tirzepatide and is given as a once-weekly injection. Suitability always depends on an individual clinical assessment.
Start a consultationAll patients receive appropriate counselling on correct use, possible side effects and ongoing monitoring from a healthcare professional. The most appropriate choice depends entirely on individual clinical circumstances and a prescribing assessment — the final decision always lies with the prescriber.
