What is Telfast?
What is Telfast?
Telfast is a brand name for the medicine fexofenadine hydrochloride. Fexofenadine is a second-generation antihistamine medicine used to relieve symptoms caused by allergic reactions. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical released by the body during an allergic response. This helps to reduce sneezing, runny nose, itching and other allergy symptoms.
How Should I Use It?
Adults and adolescents (12 years and older) can use Telfast 120 mg for allergic symptoms and Hay fever, 180mg tablets are often used for chronic idiopathic urticaria (long-term hives) in adults and adolescents.
Children 6–11 years can use Telfast 30 mg with appropriate dosing instructions.
Children under 6 years generally require clinical supervision and should not use Telfast without medical advice
Swallow tablets whole — do not chew.
Do not take with grapefruit, orange or apple juice, as these can reduce how well the medicine works.
For children aged 6–11 years: tablets or oral suspension may be used with appropriate dosing advice from a clinician or pharmacist.
Do not take more than the recommended dose. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. In that case skip the missed dose.
Is There Anybody Who Should Not Use It?
You should not take Telfast if you:
- Are allergic to fexofenadine or any of the ingredients in the medicine.
Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before taking fexofenadine if you:
- Have kidney problems — a lower dose may be needed.
- Are due to have allergy testing, as antihistamines can affect results.
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding — discuss with a clinician first.
