What is Beconase?

What is Beconase?

Beconase is a nasal spray that contains beclometasone dipropionate, which is a corticosteroid (steroid) medicine.

It is used in the nose to reduce inflammation linked to allergies. By reducing inflammation in the nasal lining, it can help ease allergy symptoms.

What is Beconase used for?

Beconase is used to prevent and treat allergic rhinitis, including:

  • Hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis)

  • Year-round allergic rhinitis (for example, allergy to dust mites or pets)

It may help relieve symptoms such as:

  • Blocked or runny nose

  • Sneezing

  • Itchy nose

  • Nasal discomfort

What side effects may I experience?

Like all medicines, Beconase can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Common side effects
  • Dryness or irritation inside the nose

  • Sneezing after use

  • Nosebleeds

  • Unpleasant taste or smell

Less common side effects
  • Headache

  • Sore throat

  • Nasal ulceration (rare)

Very rare (usually with long-term or high-dose use)
  • Effects on the adrenal glands

  • Growth suppression in children

These effects are unlikely at recommended doses.

Stop using the spray and seek medical advice if you experience persistent nosebleeds, severe irritation, pain, or any visual disturbance.

When can I expect to see results?

Beconase does not work immediately. Instead, it usually works best when used regularly.

  • Some improvement may be noticed within a few hours to a couple of days

  • Full benefit usually takes several days and may take up to 1–2 weeks

For best results, it should be used every day during the allergy period, even if symptoms improve.
