NHS Pharmacy First Service
This NHS service provides consultation, advice, and treatment where clinically appropriate, in line with NHS England clinical pathways. Ear infections (otitis) are not included.
Minor Ailments
Our pharmacists can provide advice and treatment for a range of common minor illnesses without the need to see a GP. Whether it’s a pain, cough, cold, skin condition, or other everyday health concern, we offer professional guidance and recommend appropriate treatment to help you recover quickly and safely.
Conditions Covered (excluding Otitis)
• Acute sore throat (patients aged 5 years and over)
Pain, irritation, or inflammation of the throat, often caused by a viral or bacterial infection, which may make swallowing uncomfortable.
• Sinusitis (patients aged 12 years and over)
Inflammation or infection of the sinuses causing symptoms such as facial pain or pressure, blocked or runny nose, headache, or reduced sense of smell.
• Infected insect bites (patients aged 1 year and over)
Insect bites or stings that have become infected, leading to redness, swelling, warmth, pain, or discharge around the bite.
• Impetigo (patients aged 1 year and over)
A common and highly contagious bacterial skin infection, particularly in children, causing red sores or blisters that may form a golden crust.
• Uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) (women aged 16 to 64 years)
An infection of the bladder that can cause symptoms such as pain or burning when passing urine, needing to urinate more frequently, or cloudy urine.
2. Pharmacy Contraception Service
The NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service allows eligible patients to access oral contraception and emergency contraception (the morning-after pill) following a confidential consultation with a trained pharmacist.
3. Discharge Medicines Service
An NHS service that supports patients after they are discharged from hospital by ensuring any changes to their medicines are understood, accurately recorded, and safely supplied through their community pharmacy.
4. Dispensing Medicines
We dispense NHS and private prescriptions, ensuring medicines are supplied safely and accurately, with appropriate advice provided to support correct use and adherence.
5. Repeat Dispensing & eRD (Electronic Repeat Dispensing)
A service that allows regular medicines to be issued automatically from an approved prescription, reducing the need for repeat requests while ensuring ongoing clinical appropriateness.
6. New Medicine Service
An NHS service offering support and advice to patients who have been prescribed a new medicine for certain long-term conditions, helping to improve understanding, adherence, and treatment outcomes.
