What is a migraine?

Migraine is a neurological condition that causes recurring attacks of moderate to severe head pain — typically one-sided, throbbing in character, and made worse by movement. Attacks usually last between four and 72 hours and are often accompanied by nausea or vomiting, and a strong sensitivity to light and sound. Around one in three people with migraine also experience an aura — visual disturbances, tingling, or difficulty with words — that occur before or alongside the headache phase.
