How NHS repeat prescriptions work
If your GP has issued you a repeat prescription for a long-term condition, you can collect it regularly without booking a new appointment each time. Your GP practice issues the prescription and your nominated pharmacy dispenses it.
- Request your repeat prescription from your GP practice (allow sufficient lead time — usually 48 to 72 hours)
- Your GP sends the prescription electronically to your nominated pharmacy via the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)
- We dispense your medicines and notify you when they are ready
- Collect from our Stratford pharmacy or ask about home delivery options
Nominating NewGen Pharmacy
Nominating us as your dispensing pharmacy means your repeat prescriptions can be sent to us directly by your GP, saving you time and paperwork.
- Ask your GP practice to nominate NewGen Pharmacy as your EPS pharmacy
- You can also nominate us online via your NHS account or the NHS App
- Our pharmacy ODS code is required for online nomination — please contact us for details
- You can change your nomination at any time
What to bring when you collect
For NHS prescriptions, please bring the following when you collect from our Stratford pharmacy.
- Your NHS prescription (paper or we will have the electronic one on file)
- Proof of any exemption from prescription charges if applicable (e.g. exemption certificate, maternity exemption, or HC2)
- Photo ID may be requested for certain controlled medicines
Important: this service is for NHS prescriptions only
Our repeat prescription service is for NHS prescriptions issued by your GP or other NHS prescriber. It is separate from our private online clinic. Private prescriptions issued through our online clinic follow a different process — details are provided within your consultation journey.
- NHS repeat prescriptions: dispensed in store or sent electronically via EPS
- Private online consultations: a separate service — see How It Works
- If in doubt, call us on 020 4599 5647 and we will guide you
