What is the online skin diagnosis service?

The online skin diagnosis is a photo-based clinical assessment. You describe your symptoms and upload a clear photograph; one of our clinicians reviews both and sends you a written report explaining what the condition is likely to be, whether you need prescription treatment, and — if so — whether we can provide it through NewGen or whether you should see your GP.

It is a starting point, not a replacement for a full clinical examination when one is needed. For many common skin complaints — acne, eczema flare-ups, rosacea, fungal infections, cold sores — a photograph combined with a clear symptom history gives a clinician enough to work with and recommend the right path.

What can the skin diagnosis service assess?

The service covers a wide range of common skin and nail conditions including acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, cold sores, herpes outbreaks, fungal skin and nail infections, and contact dermatitis, among others. Our clinicians review each case individually — the range is broad, but there are conditions (such as suspected skin cancer or lesions that need a biopsy) that require an in-person appointment and cannot be safely assessed by photograph alone.

If your case falls outside what we can safely assess remotely, we will tell you clearly and direct you to the right care — whether that is your GP, a dermatology referral, or an urgent appointment.

How the skin diagnosis works

Complete the short symptom questionnaire — describing the area affected, how long it has been there, any previous treatments, and any relevant medical history. You will then be invited to upload a clear photograph of the affected area. A clinician reviews your submission, usually within one working day (Monday to Friday), and sends you a written assessment.

If the assessment identifies a condition we can treat online, you will receive a recommendation and can proceed to a treatment consultation directly — the cost of the diagnosis is not charged again. If your situation needs a GP or specialist, the report will explain why and what to ask for.

NewGen Pharmacy is a GPhC-registered community pharmacy at 245 High Street, Stratford. Our online clinic is run by the same registered team that serves our walk-in NHS patients every day. Once your skin diagnosis is complete, you can move directly to a prescription consultation for conditions we treat — including acne, eczema and dermatitis, rosacea, and more.

When to see your GP instead of using this service

Use this service for common, established skin complaints where a photograph can give a clinician enough to work with. See your GP directly if you have a lesion that is changing, bleeding or unusual in appearance; if you have widespread, infected or severely inflamed skin; if you are unwell with a fever alongside your skin symptoms; or if you are a child (under 18). Our clinicians will also refer you to your GP if they cannot reach a safe conclusion from the photo and history alone.
